Community Services Coach
(Personal Development Coach)
At Alabama Goodwill Industries, our Mission is to help change lives through the power of work. We serve our community by providing employment development services and placement assistance for employment. Our programs are supported with profits generated through the sale of donated goods in our Retail Stores.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Mission Services, the Good Partner Coach is responsible for providing Team Members and families comprehensive, "single point of contact" case management as part of a seamless service delivery design including personal and career counseling, life and work coaching, linkage to and advocacy with organizational and community resources.
MISSION CONTRIBUTION:
To ensure that individuals and families receive those services from Goodwill, strategic partners, and other community resources consistent with the mission, identified outcomes, the team member's plan, and which move the team member toward overcoming barriers, self-sufficiency, and life goals.
FUNCTION:
Responsible for providing individuals and families comprehensive, "single point of contact" life and career coaching as part of a seamless service delivery design, including personal and career counseling, coaching, linkage to and advocacy with organizational and community resources.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Provides a full array of life coaching and supportive services with an outcome focus on overcoming barriers to successful employment and an improved quality of life.
- Conducts one-on-one and/or group orientation, ensuring that the Team Member is knowledgeable regarding the nature and scope of programs and services offered and that questions and concerns are answered.
- Conducts personal needs assessment in order to determine the Team Members' strengths, barriers to self-sufficiency, and goals.
- Assesses Team Members to determine if they are appropriate for the Role Model Worker (RMW) Program.
- Develops action plans with individuals and/or families based upon team member input that identifies goals, barriers, solutions, resources, action steps, individuals responsible, and target dates pertaining to achieving self-sufficiency and life goals. Ensures team members who are not yet ready for RMW have action steps identified on their plans to move them into that program.
- Ensures that Team Members are linked with the resources and support necessary to address and resolve barriers to self-sufficiency internally, with community agencies, strategic partners, and community resources within the capacity of resource broker.
- Advocates for timely, appropriate, and effective delivery of resources and supports necessary to address and resolve barriers to self-sufficiency internally, with community agencies, strategic partners, and community resources.
- Identifies gaps in resources, services, and supports necessary to assist Team Members in achieving self-sufficiency and forwards these gaps to the Mission Services Team for them to be addressed as part of neighborhood and community development.
- Provides ongoing assessment and monitoring of Team Members' progress pertaining to the action plan and attainment of self-sufficiency. Monitors Team Members' progress in the RMW program.
- Maintain regular and ongoing contact with the Team Members, internal service providers, community agencies, and strategic partners for which the Team Member is receiving services to ensure "single point of contact" case management and seamless service delivery.
- Coordinates and schedules plan reviews with the AGI TLC, Talent & Culture, and with the Team Member. Also coordinates with family, significant others, community agencies, and strategic partners as needed in order to address and resolve issues pertaining to achieving self-sufficiency and life goals.
- Provides and/or refers Team Members for career and life circumstance counseling and interpersonal guidance.
- Maintains documentation of all life coaching activities via timely, thorough, and accurate case note and data entry into the electronic case management system.
- Attends team meetings, in-service training, seminars, regular and ad hoc team meetings as assigned.
- Assists the Training Team in providing training to Goodwill Team Members.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient in the basic career and personal facilitating process while possessing strong interpersonal skills.
- Comprehends and can utilize both formal and informal career development assessments with emphasis on relating appropriate career development assessments to customers served.
- Knowledge of and adheres to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics as well as current legislative regulations.
- Knowledge of the characteristics, needs, and cultural diversity associated with Team Members served within service delivery area.
- Knowledge of community resources including faith, social, fraternal, educational, business, and governmental entities within the assigned service delivery area.
- Ability to effectively communicate person to person and in groups.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within the context of team-based organization.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions independently as needed.
- Ability to seek out and marshal internal and external resources (i.e. people, material and support) as needed.
- Knowledge of and skill in career and personal counseling, mediation, negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving strategies, techniques, and best practices.
- Knowledge and skill in computer applications including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other applications as needed.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in Social Work or five years of related experience, preferably within a community-based setting performing community organization, community resource coordination, resource brokering, career, and personal counseling.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, reliable car, and safe driving record.
- Available and willing to work flexible days and hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Ability to conform to Goodwill Industries' Drug-Free Workplace requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.

- Increase Team Member obtaining a GED or high school diploma
- Achieve a Retention Rate of at least 90%
- Increase Team Members moving from prep school into RMW
- Increase enrollment of Team Members into the RMW Program
